Eight years ago this morning, we lost nearly three thousand men, women and children to zealotry and hate. In the time that has passed since that terrible morning, the horror and anger the attacks created seems to have dulled for some. That is tragic, not only because each of those thousands deserves to be remembered and mourned as an individual in their own right, but also because a numb sense of complacency during the years leading up to that day allowed it to be planned and executed.
We must never forget those who we lost on that day, and we must never forget what the Islamic terrorists who attacked our country were trying to take away from us.
We are still at war with the Islamic terrorist group who launched the attack on our country and those who support it. While you remember those we lost that day, also remember those who are fighting at this very moment to make sure it never happens again.
