Tom Manion Releases Campaign Commercial [Video]

It’s mid-September.  Most Bucks County residents are days away from the sticker shock that will result from receiving their first tank of oil for the coming winter.  Wall Street is in the throes of an unraveling credit market, sending stock prices tumbling and people’s 401ks into the red, with Congressional Democrats directly culpable and complicit in mandating that mortgages be given to people who cannot afford to pay them back in areas where values do not appreciate.

It’s mid-September in an election climate as described above.  PA Congressional candidate Tom Manion has released his first television ad of the campaign season, and it’s about…Iraq.

Tom Manion has a story to tell about Iraq, and about the very real human cost of war.  It is a touching and gripping story.  It’s a story about being enough of a patriot to see the mission’s benefit to the country despite the high price paid by the candidate and his family.

It’s just not the story he needs to be telling in order to get elected.

God love you, Manion folks.  You know I’m pulling for the ouster of the accidentally elected gun-confiscating oil-drill-denying zucchini-judging lobbyist-coddling love child of Nancy Pelosi and Karl Marx known as Patrick Murphy.  But I have to be honest.

You’ve got an accomplished businessman running against a glorified teacher during one of the most dire business crises in a generation, and your introduction to the television viewing audience is about…Iraq?

Not only is it about Iraq, but it draws absolutely no distinction between Mr. Manion and Li’l Pat on the topic.  Murphy didn’t vote to send anyone’s son or daughter to war.  Manion doesn’t say he supports the war or the successful troop surge, a surge that Murphy wrongfully opposed despite being a self-proclaimed expert on Iraq.

To beat an incumbent, even those who, like Murphy, barely won and skated into office by accident, you have to draw a distinction between yourself and the incumbent.  Ousting Murphy is not the only reason to vote for Manion, but in order to defeat an incumbent you do have to tell people why they shouldn’t just send him back.

From what I understand there’s not a lot of money in play here.  You have to spend it talking about what the voters want to talk about.  Energy.  Economy. Kitchen table issues.

Tough love, here.  This ad is emotionally moving, but it’s not moving any votes.

Did anyone catch Murphy’s new campaign commercial on YouTube.

It’s actually pretty good, from a campaign commercial standpoint.

And he touts the LOWER FREAKIN END of Bucks County, where 75% of the votes are….

In fact, after re-reading your post for the third time, Mr. BucksRight, I am nominating you to become the top Manion campaign adviser…. immediately if not sooner.
