December 5, 2008OJ Simpson received a 15-year jail sentence, eligible for parole in 6 (Las Vegas Review-Journal says 9), for his role in a 2007 memorabilia robbery at a Las Vegas hotel.
My plan is to riot about the light sentence and the way in which OJ was never beaten by police at about 5:00 PM with the riot wrapping up around dinner time. Who is with me? If anyone can think of a good location where we can snag some free TVs (and maybe a Bow Flex - I think I need to exercise a little more) as an expression of our outrage please let me know.
In a long preamble before sentencing, prosecutors sought to pin the blame mainly on Simpson rather than his co-defendant. They said Simpson was the ringleader of the crime, the one who secured the guns and the one who escalated the violence.
“It could have been a lot worse,” the prosecution said. “He’s the person who ruined so many lives.”
Simpson’s two defence lawyers mounted strong appeals for clemency before an emotional Simpson stood up to say he was sorry. Wearing a blue prison suit, he defended his actions as those of a man trying to recover property that had been stolen from him.
“This was the first time I had an opportunity to catch these guys red-handed who were stealing my property,” Simpson told the judge.
“I did not mean to hurt anyone, I did not mean to steal anything, just my own stuff,” Simpson said. “I just wanted my personal things back… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody.”
UPDATE: The AP now says OJ’s sentence can be up to 33 years, but still eligible for parole in 9.
According to police and Penn State University officials, the senior who runs around in the Nittany Lion costume was arrested for driving under the influence on November 22. As a result, James Sheep may not get to run around dressed as a big cat at the Rose Bowl.
After a finding that the state’s parole procedures are “safe and effective,” Governor Rendell lifted the moratorium on paroling violent offenders yesterday.

The FBI is currently searching for a man considered armed and dangerous who robbed a Northeast Philadelphia Citizen’s Bank wearing a Barack Obama “Yes We Can” baseball cap.
He is described as a 35-year-old black man with a beard and mustache. He wore sunglasses, a black ball cap with the words “YES WE CAN” on it, a beige coat, black gloves and blue jeans. He fled the scene in a green SUV with a possible license plate of 44660. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 215-418-4000.
I believe I am the first to dub him the “Yes We Can Bank Robber” and I would like credit for thinking up a cool criminal name that also manages to denigrate the campaign slogan of our new President.
Thank you.
The Intelligener is reporting that another incident involving a naked man in Bucks County may have occurred Monday.

A naked, bald man attacked a female jogger on New Hope Road in Buckingham early Monday afternoon.
Police said a woman jogging on the road between Route 413 and Holicong Road was attacked from behind by a naked man. Police are investigating the incident as a sexual assault.
The woman said her attacker got her in a bear hug and lifted her upright. He then released her and ran to Holicong Road where he got into a silver sport utility vehicle, believed to be a Jeep Liberty. Police said the vehicle had a Pennsylvania license plate, but the victim could not get the tag number.
The man is described as between 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, bald, medium build and clean shaven.
I checked, and Doylestown native Michael Smerconish is considerably older than that. You know, due dilligence. It would be much easier to be on the lookout for the suspect if the Courier-Times decided to tell us what race bald man we should be looking out for.
Apparently, this is not the first “naked man in public” incident in Bucks County this month.
The incident sounds similar to one that occurred in Middletown last week.
Middletown police said that on Nov. 11 a man wearing only a pair of socks was seen on Red Berry Road. Police said the man was described as a white male with a medium build and balding. He was last seen in a small silver SUV.
Definitely a white guy there.
Are police really having a lot of trouble spotting naked guys in socks running around the suburbs when driving around on their patrols? Unsolicited Tip: If you see a naked guy driving a Jeep Liberty in the middle of November, pull him over.

After having several McCain / Palin signs stolen from his front yard, Shawn Turschak wired one with electricity and set up a camera. Hilarity ensured when a little jackass from down the road showed up with his Obama / Biden sign looking to do some damage to Turschak’s property.
Tuesday afternoon the camera saw this: A nine-year-old-year-old neighbor trotted up with an Obama-Biden sign in his hand, grabbed a handful of volts as he touched the McCain-Palin sign, then quickly ran away.
The parents, of course, claim ignorance. Of course they’re ignorant, they’re Obama supporters.
The boy’s father told an investigator that the boy had been trying to pull the sign up so that he could see how it was constructed, a spokesman for the sheriff’s department said. Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he had consulted with the district attorney and didn’t plan to file charges in the incident.
Sure. The kid was running around the neighborhood with an Obama sign in hand just checking to see how these darn sign things work.
Video below. It’s 8 seconds long. Watch it more than once. I know I did.
Ashley Todd, who falsely claimed an attacker slashed the letter “B” in her face because she was a McCain supporter mugging her, was apparently too “out there” for even the Ron Paul campaign. And that’s saying something.
Dustan Costine, the leader of the Texas Ron Paul grass-roots group in which Todd was involved, said she was asked to leave the group “because of the tactics she displayed.”
