I realize I’m probably the only person to watch CBS3’s worthless Eyewitness News last night, or any night since they fired all the interesting people for that matter, but I saw a story of interest previewed and I hit “Record” on the DVR so I could catch it.
They ran a story called “Pet Care Danger” all about a rash of complaints being filed with the EPA over dogs getting sick from those spot-applied flea and tick liquids. So around midnight I finally get to the recording and fast-forward through all the droning to the story I want to see.
As the dad of three dogs, I sat through all the personal stories and painful dog-death home videos, hoping to get some actual information about what products are killing these dogs. Nothing. Nada. Not one brand name was mentioned or shown.
At the end of the story, they said I should go to their web site to get a list of the products causing the problems. OK, fair enough. So I head to the web site, and the link is to an EPA PDF file listing EVERY FLEA-AND-TICK DROP KNOWN TO MANKIND AS OF MAY 6, 2009.
So here it is May. Fleas, ticks and all manner of bugs are starting to fill the yard. And I am now entirely petrified to put any kind of protection on the dogs out of fear they’ll wind up like Lincoln the Golden Retriever in the shock video: Shivering, whimpering and dying. I guess I’ll just throw some dirt in the corner of the kitchen and let them crap over there?
All scare, no information. Thanks, CBS3! You’ve got the lady sitting there telling you every detail about the death of her beloved dog, but you don’t mention the product that she believes actually killed him? Can someone just get me the name of something that won’t kill my dogs but will kill ticks and fleas?
Former Philadelphia news anchor Alycia Lane doesn’t appear “ready to make nice” with disgraced former Philadelphia news anchor Larry Mendte despite Mendte turning to face Lane and issuing a tortured apology to her during his sentencing hearing for hacking into her email accounts yesterday.

The Inquirer is reporting that disgraced former CBS3 anchor Larry Mendte, who admitted to snooping around in the email accounts of coworker Alycia Lane, may have also tried to ferret into the account of KYW meteorologist Doug Kammerer.
Mendte is due to be sentenced on Monday.

It’s always sunny in Philadelphia, or at least it is for the Obama / Biden campaign. Unlike Orlando Florida’s WFTV, which responded with a bird flipping when “banned” by the Obama campaign for asking Joe Biden some tough questions about ACORN and tax policy, CBS3 responded to the Obama campaign’s threats by grabbing their ankles and begging for forgiveness.
Joey “Plugs” Biden appeared on CBS3’s 4PM newscast via satellite last Thursday, and was stunned to be asked questions about Obama’s socialist tax policies and some alleged shady money moves of his own by CBS3’s Angela Russell and Chris May.
Poor Slow Joe: He was expecting to talk about the Phillies. It must be nice to be a Democrat Vice Presidential candidate. You get to go into interviews with the expectation of a little sports chat, not that you’ll be browbeaten like a Republican would.
Philly.com’s Marnie Hall reports that the Obama campaign immediately threatened to ban the station from future coverage of the candidates, and CBS3 dutifully threw the interview down the memory hole. The newscast containing the interview was not available on their web site as it would normally be.

Unemployed former CBS KYW-TV Philadelphia anchor Larry Mendte has pleaded guilty to one federal charge of illegal computer access, a charge that could land the disgraced newsman in prison for 5 years. It’s unlikely that Mendte will serve that much, if any, time on the charge.
The charge surrounds Mendte’s now-admitted access of former on-air partner Alycia Lane’s 3 personal email accounts over a nearly two-year period between May 2006 and March 2008. Lane was the subject of numerous personal information leaks during that time.
