Something Tells Me We’re Not Looking at Romney or Pawlenty

Based on the buzz today, I’m starting to get the impression we’re not looking at a Romney or Pawlenty running mate pick by John McCain.  If reports that the name will be “leaked” at about 6PM ET with “some sort of confirmation at 8PM” are accurate, I think we’re looking at a much more groundbreaking game-changing pick.

Of course, this could just be misdirection to cause consternation among the Obamites ahead of ‘The One’s’ speech.  Be warned, though, if it is not, the pick may not neccessarily be one that will make Conservatives happy.

If this roll out is really the game plan, I do not think that the McCain campaign would risk being seen as trying to “steal Obama’s thunder” with a pick that’s going to fall flat or be viewed as ho-hum and routine on the night of his big Messianic speech.  If they’re going before the speech, it’s going to be something big.

The campaign was fueling speculation about his running mate, who is to be named at a McCain rally in Ohio tomorrow. A top campaign official says McCain has settled on his vice presidential choice and will notify the person today.

Matt Drudge of The Drudge Report, who has high-level McCain contacts, posted a tease this morning saying: “SOURCE: NAME MAY LEAK AT 6 PM ET… WITH SOME SORT OF CONFIRMATION AT 8 PM.”

Obama is scheduled to speak between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern before a crowd of about 75,000 at a Denver stadium where the final session of the Democratic National Convention is being staged.

The leak of the McCain ticket mate would cause a news frenzy at at time when the Obama campaign wanted viewers to be focused on Obama’s economic and change messages.

The Politico also reports that McCain is going to be running a response to the Obama speech, in the form of an advertisement featuring the candidate speaking directly into the camera and directly to ‘The One.’ The ad will apparently run in battleground states during commercial breaks directly following the Obamessiah’s speech.

“Sen. McCain is going to have an ad that’s going to air in battleground states around the time that Sen. Obama is speaking tonight,” Hazelbaker said. “He’s going to be talking directly to his opponent. So, I’m going to leave it there. But it’s going be very exciting. I think that a lot of people are going to focus on it.”

    I’m a Romney supporter.

If McCain picks anyone else (even Pawlenty), my enthusiasm for the ticket will plummet down to about 10%.

Just had to respond to my own post, and admit that edit35 was completely wrong, and a knuckle-head for being so blinded in the VP search department.

Because in retrospect, McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin was an absolute stroke of genius!!!

Not only is she a formidable conservative and leader in her own right, she is about as far away from ‘inside WashDC’ as one could be without falling off the edge of the earth.

She is feminine and beautiful, yet commanding. She leads by example, with her willingness to go after smarmy politicians of both parties. She vetoes wasteful spending. She absolutely accepts and loves her new baby, despite the infants difficulties.

And her family…. wow, they are picture perfect.

Lifelong NRA member, moose hunter, hubby wins four dogsled races, son volunteers for US Army and heads off to Iraq, had fishing business, walks her kids to the bust stop herself.

Must admit, I feel churlish for not even taking Palin seriously in the first place.(mainly cause I never read up on her before, and because I was sure Obama would select Hillary, which would have pushed McCain away from a “me too woman” choice.)

And perhaps the best thing about Palin on the GOP ticket is that it will tie the race-baiting, sex-baiting, class-envy Dems (the reporting media) into a double-twisted pretzel as they attempt to portray the GOP as anti-woman …. even as Biden continues to make public jokes about being “hard”.
