Protesters Rally For Threatened Conservative Mall Kiosk

A hundred protesters rallied Sunday in support of Free Market Warrior, the Concord Mills Mall kiosk retailer of conservative-themed items that mall owners Simon Property Group ordered closed at the end of July.

impeach-obamaI absolutely love that the grassroots are active and vocal.  A year ago, you wouldn’t have been able to get 10 people together to protest this kind of attack on a conservative business.  But a side-effect of Barack Obama’s race to turn America Socialist before his political capital runs out has been to electrify freedom-loving Americans who a year ago would not have considered themselves activists.

Simon Property Group owns several malls locally, including Oxford Valley Mall and Lincoln Plaza in Bucks County, Franklin Mills Mall in Philadelphia, and Quakerbridge Mall in New Jersey.  The company is owned by Melvin Simon, a fat-cat donor to Barack Obama and liberal causes.  The company tried to get Altanta’s July Tea Party, which was to be held on a property adjacent to one of their malls, cancelled, but organizers were able to find an alternate location.

Kiosk owner Loren Spivack met with the mall manager on Sunday to try and work out an agreement to keep the kiosk open.

“It was a pleasant, amicable conversation, but we didn’t come to any resolution about whether our business would be able to stay in the mall,” Spivack said. “He wanted to include some of his company’s senior management and we agreed to talk again Monday.”

Spivack points to the other stores in the mall selling liberal-themed items without comment as proof that he is being targeted based on the conservative ideas expressed in his merchandise.

The controversy started after recent college graduate (read: fresh victim of liberal brain washing) Jennifer Ibanez wrote letters to Simon Property Group and the Charlotte Observer squawking about the rather tame criticism of Barack Obama and liberal ideology found in the merchandise at Free Market Warrior and throwing down the race card.

Free Market Warrior…specializes in memorabilia embellished with pro-confederacy statements as well as those opposing both the government and President Obama. In addition, these products support ideas such as racisms (sic), sexism, and even slavery.

My favorite line from Ibanez is this one.

While freedom of speech is a Constitutional right it’s difficult not to believe that something just isn’t quite right here.

“While freedom of speech is a Constitutional right,” let me tell you why it should not be for people I disagree with, and let me do so with the most awkwardly constructed sentence I can write.

Whether its Tea Parties, socialized medicine protests or local issue protests like this one, Barack Obama has awakened the sleeping silent majority.
