Look for Democrats who’s Congressional seats are up for grabs in tight races this fall like Bucks County’s dedicated Nancy Pelosi Mini-Me Patrick Murphy to suddenly reverse course and back offshore drilling to relieve pricing pressure at the pump now that Pelosi has quietly told them it’s OK to do so. Murphy does nothing without Mama Nancy’s explicit approval. Pelosi’s reasoning seems to be that she will grow her House majority after November, so the issue will never come to a vote anyway.
The Pennsylvania Eighth Congressional District has been “represented” by ultra-liberal Democrat and political zygote Li’l Pat Murphy since he was mistakenly elected in November 2006. Murphy lost Bucks County in that race, but won in the 8th tack-on precincts in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. Leaders lead, but Murphy follows every edict handed down by San Fran Nan.
California Democrat Nancy Pelosi may be trying to save the planet – but the rank and file in her party increasingly are just trying to save their political hides when it comes to gas prices as Republicans apply more and more rhetorical muscle.
But what looks like intraparty tension on the surface is part of an intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes she’s encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically, according to Democratic aides on and off Capitol Hill.
