Patrick Murphy Gets A Challenger

The first of what I hope is a large and robust group of potential challengers to Nancy Pelosi’s lap dog Patrick Murphy has announced his candidacy to be the Congressman from Pennsylvania’s 8th District.

Jeffrey Schott, a computer consultant from Warrington, says he’s in the race because “our government is out of control.”

“They’re not acting with any fiscal responsibility whatsoever with all the deficit spending. Both sides are too driven by special-interest groups.”

Calling himeself a moderate, Schott added: “The challenge for me will not be having a big name.”

I’m assuming he meant that the challenge “will be not having a big name.”

Schott has a web site which lists his positions on a number of national issues including taxes and ethics, an Achilles heel of Patrick “last minute book deal / Kuchera Defense Systems” Murphy.

I was giddy when I read this on Twitter this afternoon. Giddy.

Latest word from the NRCC is that our little district is not in focus, so it seems this effort to unseat Murphy will need to be entirely of our doing. I understand Schott is not the only Republican interested in taking on Kuchera’s Congressman. Maybe his announcement will open the flood gates.

We may not be a priority now. But, I was a little more hopeful with this fact from Jim Geraghty yesterday: 51 of the 74 GOP freshmen who won in 1994 signed on as candidates in the 2 weeks after the GOP won gov races in VA and NJ in 1993.

If things go really badly for Democrats, there would be an awful lot of new seats in play. Granted, it would be an uphill battle on the money front. Not only does Murphy have a war chest, but I’m sure best buddy Allyson Schwartz would throw gobs of money into the race, as well as Nancy Pelosi. And since Patty-boy paid Obama’s street money last year, he’d probably have those guys from Philly come up to help him GOTV in the suburbs and destroy the signs of those of us who disagree, just like the MoveOn busloads did last year.

A first shaft of sunlight from the dark and heavy clouds as Patrick “I served in Iraq but cower behind a phone when lying to my constituents in -gulp- Pennsylvania” Murphy is shown the door.

Arise ye members of the 8th district with a mighty chant: “Thirteen months, thirteen months!”
Okay, so that one’ll need some work, but a pre-hallelujah! nonetheless.
