Patrick Murphy Defends Patrick Kennedy In Catholic Flap

Phony fiscal Blue Dog and strangely pro-abortion Catholic Democrat Congressman Patrick Murphy spoke out against the Catholic Church, which has refused to provide Holy Communion to fellow pro-abortion Democrat Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

Murphy is not just “pro-choice.”  While publicly keeping up the facade of his false Catholicism, he is one of the most pro-abortion Congressman in the House of Representatives today.  During last year’s campaign, for example, he held a September fundraiser in a private home with donation levels ticked off in denominations of how much they helped in killing babies.

The following categories are established for suggested contributions: $1,000 will make the contributor a “Pro-Choice Champion,” $500 will earn the designation “Pro-Choice Activist,” $250 makes one a “Pro-Choice Advocate, and $100 is a “Pro-Choice Donor.”

Additionally, Murphy’s campaign literature for the fundraiser touted his baby-killing bona fides.

[T]he invitation reminds supporters that, “Since being elected to office in 2006, Patrick Murphy has been a strong advocate for women’s health and reproductive rights. He has earned a 100% pro-choice voting record from Planned Parenthood and is a cosponsor of the Prevention First Act, the choice community’s top legislative priority. He is also a cosponsor of a bill to reverse the ‘Global Gag Rule,’ allowing US aid to go to global family planning initiatives, and supports an expanded sex education program for students.

The sanctity of life is a basic tenet of the Catholic religion, not a meaningless or symbolic gesture. You can’t be Catholic and believe in unfettered abortion any more than you can be Catholic and deny the divinity of Jesus. Opposing abortion is central to the dogma of the Church.

“Abortion kills an unborn, developing human life. It is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it. Catholics who make excuses for it – whether they’re famous or not – fool only themselves and abuse the fidelity of those Catholics who do sincerely seek to follow the Gospel and live their Catholic faith.” – Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput

Murphy is more concerned about being a good Democrat than being a good Catholic, though. Seems like someone is anxious to lick a little Kennedy sack and get in good with the dying dynasty.

“We don’t legislate at the orders of the Vatican, we legislate what is in our conscience and what we think is good for our country,” said Rep. Patrick Murphy, a Democrat and Catholic who, like Kennedy, supports abortion rights. Murphy spoke at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., where he received a John F. Kennedy New Frontier Award from the late president’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy.

No offense and all, but aren’t you supposed to, as a Catholic, live by the dictates of the Church?  And, as part of your life is the act of approving legislation, wouldn’t that be included?

Murphy said he was a saddened by the controversy.

“It’s been disheartening for millions of (Catholics) across the country to see one of our own be banished,” Murphy said. “I’m reaching out to Patrick Kennedy and also to my local priests and bishops to make sure they know that we agree on 99 percent of the issues.”

Murphy said he had not talked personally with Kennedy, but had sent him an e-mail and left a message with his office offering his support and prayers.

Ewww.  Kennedy stalker, much?  Play a little hard to get, Li’l Pat.

In his 2008 book, “Taking the Hill,” Murphy wrote that a local parish priest refused to bless his marriage in 2006 to his wife, Jenni, during his first campaign for Congress because of his stance on abortion rights.

“That hurt me deeply,” Murphy said.

It hurt your district and credibility “deeply” when you skirted the ethics rules and signed your shady book deal after your first election but right before being sworn in as part of the “Most ethical congress evah!”

    Patty Murphy went to Church.
    He never missed a Sunday.
But Patty Murphy went to Hell
For what he did on Monday.
