In the first of what I assume will be many examples of why you don’t elect someone who has never once led anything to be President of the United States, Barack Obama’s public statement about the future of our missile defense system in Poland does not match what he told the leader of Poland in private.

You can’t vote “present” and leave the world hanging when you’re President.  If your plan is to appease Russia, you need to be clear.  If your plan is to defend our country and Europe against an increasingly hostile Russian state by placing a missile defense system in Poland, you need to be clear.

Instead, with Russia threatening to put missiles at their borders, Obama can’t decide on defense or appeasement. What a blunder.

Obama’s foreign policy adviser Denis McDonough tells the press Obama made no commitment to Poland on going forward with the missile defense system, while Polish President Lech Kaczynski says Obama assured him the system is a go.

On Wednesday, the day after Obama’s election, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev threatened to move short-range missiles to Russia’s borders with NATO allies even as the U.S. offered new proposals on nuclear arms reductions as well as missile defense. Allowing Russian observers at planned missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic were among them, U.S. officials said.

[...]

“President Kaczynski raised missile defense, but President-elect Obama made no commitment on it. His position is as it was throughout the campaign, that he supports deploying a missile defense system when the technology is proved to be workable,” McDonough said.

In a statement issued before McDonough’s, Kaczynski said Obama “emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership of Poland and the United States and expressed hope in the continuation of political and military cooperation between our countries. He also said that the missile defense project would continue.”

Presidents don’t get training wheels.

It will be highly amusing when Obama is suddenly forced to make a hard decision, whether on the missile shield, standing up to Jihad terror, or cutting domestic programs (which will become necessary in light of fastly falling revenues).

Consider that Clinton/Gore kicked the alQaeda Jihad issue down the road for eight years, while cutting the US military from 19 active Divisions down to 11.

Will these radical Jihadists attempt new takeovers, thinking they have a “wink wink” ally in Obama …. or will they simply continue their stepped up covert mosque missions in Europe and the USA due to the reluctance of the Obama Administration to adhere to the Patriot Act??

Actually, I think Obama will try and follow the Clinton model: do as little REAL international security work on behalf of democracy as possible.

Obama will then draw down our military forces big time, and use the savings to “balance” the budget in 2012 … just in time for the next Presidential election.

“Peace in Our Time” — Worked good for Clinton. Worked good for Nevil Chamberlain.
