In the midst of the first Barack Obama press conference after the election, Obama managed to roll out a goofy sign for a governmental office that does not exist and to insult former First Lady Nancy Reagan.
When asked if he has spoken to former Presidents, Obama stated that he had spoken to all of those who were living. After a pause, he said he made that distinction because he didn’t want to get into any Nancy Reagan seance situations (updated with video at end of post).
Because it’s a riot to mock elderly widows while standing behind a sign that looks like it was printed at the Kinkos on Hubris Avenue.
Updated to also reflect that Nancy Reagan was reported to have had an astrologer come to the White House, never to have had seances. Mary Todd Lincoln was the one reported to have had seances. So Obama’s crack was not only ignorant in tone but also ignorant of fact.
Maybe he was thinking of Hillary Clinton’s two-way conversations with Eleanor Roosevelt.
Unbelievable softball questions.
Stock market tanked by 100 points while he was speaking.
On the Hope / Change / New Tone in Washington front, guess what news organization didn’t get a question at the event. Here are the questioners in order:
Nedra Pickler (AP), Lee Cowan (NBC), Jake Tapper (ABC), Chip Reid (CBS), Karen Bohan (Reuters), John McCormick (Chicago Tribune), Lynn Sweet (Chicago Sun-Times), Candy Crowley (CNN), Jeff Zeleny (New York Times).

Don’t even know where to start. A total show boating. First, send out the team of advisors to stand for a minute or two. Let the audience see them and get used to them standing up there so they won’t later distract the press from your presence. Next, march yourself out to the podium with the fictitious “The Office of the President Elect” (what a joke) banner. Obama never looked straight out from the podium towards the TV camera. Couldn’t get 2 words at a time out before looking back at the cue cards.
What does it say about his judgement and “change” when he complements Michigan governor Granholm (D) for her participation? Michigan’s economy has been totally destroyed by years of democrat rule and pandering to the UAW.
The stock market already had its 1000 point drop reaction to Obama. The election day rally was nothing but hope and speculation that McCain could pull an upset. Although the market came back today it was nothing but another dead cat bounce on the way down to dow 7000.
Total tastelessness about Nancy Reagan. This guy has no class. Imagine if a similar comment was made about his grandmother that just passed away.
get over it buddy. It was funny; Nancy Reagan had psychics and astrologers at the whitehouse talking to god knows who. Boy, I had no idea you guys were so thin skinned. I’m a republican and just because democrats won big, it doesn’t mean republicans should act like liberal pussies.
“The stock market already had its 1000 point drop reaction to Obama. The election day rally was nothing but hope and speculation that McCain could pull an upset.”
BTW the market was up 250 points today and on even more on election day so lying isn’t going to help our cause. The new republican party needs to get you sobbing, name calling pussies out, and get back to our values. I can see Reagan and chuck Heston (real Americans) laughing at you whiners
Funny how Obama always goes after the women. Yeah, I guess the people who point it out are the pussies.
DAVE: “The new republican party needs to get you sobbing, name calling pussies out, and get back to our values.”
“Name-calling pussies” — now there’s a brilliant statement…. (as names fly out of his mouth)
As for “getting back to our values” …. the vast majority of GOP values are just fine.
Here are a few —
*Low, non-confiscatory taxes so businesses can grow:
*School choice, vouchers to give parents options:
*Standardized testing — (Dems strenuously oppose this. They want teachers, i.e. unions, to have the final say over whether a child has been sufficiently “taught” or whether an individual teacher is competent)
*Respect for life of unborn babies and elderly (funny how it’s always Democrats and leftists who advocate euthanasia for the frail and infirm, and Democrats who would leave a botched abortion baby die in the trash can)
*Respect for Judeo-Christian focused institutions, including faith-based charities which were shunned by Democrats the past 40 years in lieu of ‘community organizers’ like Obama.
*Workfare — as opposed to welfare, which the Democrats are AGAIN demanding.
*No homo education “mainstreaming” and/or sex education for 2nd graders:
*USA interests first, not those of the sharia-dominated UN (Obama vows to put USA “in line” with UN thinking. Check out his statements)
*Pre-emptive defense of America (seems to have worked pretty well since the 9/11 shock)
*right to vote PRIVATELY — (Obama has vowed to pass this anti Constitutional union-backed law that would force workers to VOTE IN PUBLIC !!!! Is there anything more un-American than this??) (Obama also vowed to change law to allow unions the “right” to force their way into small family-owned businesses of less than 10 workers)
*Privacy rights for private citizens: A half dozen Ohio DEMOCRATS accessed govt computers to dig up information on private citizen Joe-the-Plumber, and then leaked it to the media. Democrat leaders just shruged! Is THIS the new Democrat “values” system — investigate those who don’t think correctly.
*Energy independence — allow American companies to use American workers to develop American resources, which are abundant and safe. Democrats have opposed offshore, onshore, around-shore, and any other shore drilling the past 40 years. (OK, in fairness, GHWB did sign the ban of offshore drilling, but the GOP has since rejected that pandering policy. Look what happened to oil prices since THE VERY DAY Pres. Bush announced the lifting of punitive drilling laws in America)

Man, I could go on and on and on. The Republican values are just fine.
Unfortunately, they allowed the party to somehow nominate a snoozer, frumpy, irritating-voice, sickly candidate (sorry McCain, just speaking truth here) who mistakenly thought the Democrat-dominated reporter pool, or the Democrats themselves, would give him one inch of credit for compromising with liberal Democrats (redundant) these past eight years.
McCain convinced enough GOP primary voters last winter that “reasonable Democrats” and independants would flock to his side because he blasted GWB and the Republicans over education, Iraq, oil exploration, campaign financing, and a host of other “compromises.”
Instead, Democrats called McCain a racist nazi who would bring this country back to the days of slavery, and worst.
Compromising with those who would push my kids and grandkids into the arms of the sharia promotion and multi-culturalism mandates of the UN is simply not an option.
I value my genetic survival too much for that.
Are you guys seriously going to do this for the next 8 years and 3 months. You are insane!!! I had no idea Republicans would be such sore loosers. You guys need to focus inward and fix your torn down, sectional, far from Conservative party, not hang on every word that Obama says and harp on it like a wolf wounded in the hind quarter by a missed shot from a helicopter that takes 5 minutes to circle back around. Your attacks say more about you than they do about him. How on earth are you going to blame the president elect for anything that happens in the economy? How about taking some blame for yourself. It was your vote that got us into the mess we are in right now, on every front, domestically, internationally, politically, economically. There has never been a worse president in American History and you need to accept some blame for that. Let your gaping wounds heal a little before you go back on the offensive. You have no ground to speak from and 64% of America agrees. If you don’t like it, I heard Australia is nice this time of year. If you refuse to give this guy a chance, you are doing more harm to your country than good. Face it, we won, you didn’t! You have a lot of work to do, get to it.
Sorry. Not one day of honeymoon here. Glad you’re worried what harms the country. Could have used that sentiment the past eight years. “Dissent is Patriotic,” remember? Just “Questioning Authority.”
We’re not going anywhere. We love this country too much. You don’t want us pointing out dumb things, you shouldn’t have elected a dummy. We’ll be here sticking it in his eye every time he opens his mouth. Have him either dust off the teleprompter or learn to think on his feet.
By the way, John McCain lost, not me.
One “o” in loser. “Looser” will be the way to describe my pants pocket after you socialists empty my wallet.
Jray: “How on earth are you going to blame the president elect for anything that happens in the economy?”
You’re right actually.
The DNC-wing of the national press (that’s about 98%, I’d say) will not begin publishing those “the-economy-is-growing-again-and-everything-is-fine” stories until about….. oh, I’d say….. Jan. 20, 2009.
Believe it or not, and I’m sure you don’t, the financial media can drive an economy up or down.
Yes, the numbers and earnings must eventually catch up with the lib media’s rhetoric, but make no mistake, a constant barrage of positive or negative stories can push the economy of an industry segment… or the economy as a whole … in either direction.
Oh, I forgot:
Here’s another doozy from Jray:
“It was your vote that got us into the mess we are in right now, on every front, domestically, internationally, politically, economically.”
Besides the economic credit crunch, this world and country is in relatively fine shape.
DOMESTIC?? What is this “domestic” turmoil you harp about?? Besides the economic slowdown and bank crunch, the domestic situation in America is about the same as it’s been the past 50 years. (of course in your mind, Republicans are out there right now stealing lollipops from children, and cancelling Christmas, I suppose)
INTERNATIONAL??? What is all this turmoil of which you speak??? The Mid-East has been stable the past few years thanks to the hard work of the Bush Administration, which successfully demolished the Iraqi nexis of terror, which before 9/11 was the hub and crossroads of every global terrorist organization. (many now moved to Iran, by the way)
Before the Iraq liberation, Iraq was the country where Abu Nidal went after launching many terrorist attacks.
Abu Abbaaz, another global terrorist, also lived in Iraq pre-9/11 thanks to Saddam Hussein.
A half dozen terrorists who attacked the World Trade Centers in 1993 also sought refuge in Iraq, pre-9/11.
Do a little research and stop reading KozKooks and you will discover the multitude of terrorist organizations that Saddam Hussein not only funded, but allowed sanctuary in Iraq before we liberated that country.
POLITICALLY?? Where the heck is this so-called political crisis? Why, because we just had a hard-fought Presidential election, which we do every four years in case you didn’t notice, you CLAIM we have a “political” crisis.
Please enlighten me with some specifics of this awful awful world, domestic, political mess of which you dream.
Yes, the economy is slow and could slide into recession… which would be ironic don’t you agree, considering that the last quarter of Clinton/Gore administration put America in recession which Pres. GWB inherited, and had to solve.
Don’t let the trolls get to you. That’s what they want.
