There’s an old vaudeville comedy routine called “Slowly I Turned,” where one of the actors hears a certain phrase that drives him over the edge into a state of agitated mania much to the surprise of an unknowing onlooker. For Patrick Murphy, it seems there is also such a phrase: Karl Rove.
Either that, or sMurphy knows he can juke a couple extra bucks from his Rovephobic followers just by mentioning his name. Isn’t that just what people need during these tough economic times; a politician using scare tactics as a ploy to get them to open their already depleted wallets.
The Bucks County Courier-Times reports that sMurphy recently sent out a fund raising letter invoking the name of great lib boogey man Karl Rove. The thrust of the letter was that Rove is working for Conservative activist group Freedom’s Watch, and lurking in the shadows to see just how much sMurphy can raise. If it’s not enough, Rove will sense the sMurphy campaign is weak and pounce, rushing into Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District and carrying out his evil doing at sMurphy’s expense.
One problem. Karl Rove doesn’t work for Freedom’s Watch.
Murphy’s claims drew a strong rebuke from Freedom’s Watch. Tim Pearson, a spokesman for the Washington, D.C.-based organization, claimed that Murphy was using phony scare tactics.
“He’s inventing a boogeyman,” said Pearson, who added Murphy should be working on legislation to lower gas prices “not trying to raise money by making false accusations.”
Rove, a former deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to President George W. Bush and now a Fox News contributor, is not on Freedom’s Watch staff and is not a “chief political strategist,” Pearson said.
“That’s categorically false,” Pearson said of Murphy’s claim, although he added that Rove “provides advice from time to time” for the group.

“The Bucks County Courier-Times reports that sMurphy recently sent out a fund raising letter……”
Yeah, the letter arrived at the homes of Patricia Walker, managing editor, Guy Petroziello, the Editorial Page editor, Kate Fratty?- columnist, Jackie ??, the newscopy editor, Karl LaVo, editor editor, Schied, and a dozen other Murphy sychophants in that newsroom.
Even the one token ‘conservative’ in that newsroom is simply a Scott McClellan conservative, beholden to conservative principals when he thinks it will help his career.
The only dilemma is… how to send $ without violating that pesky rule against supporting or campaigning on behalf of a candidate.
