I keep hearing that conservatives are purging anyone who disagrees with their staunch ideology from every trace of right-leaning life but coming across evidence that it’s the left that doesn’t really like the give and take of ideas.
Examples? We’ll, there’s Joe Lieberman. And the backlash against the Democrats who voted for the Stupak Amendment.
And then there’s Lou Dobbs.
Dobbs has been the one, gentle thorn in the side of the Obama administration at CNN; the only one who dared to run stories contrary to the Democrat party line. He’s hardly a “right wing flame thrower.” He’s just a quiet and reasoned voice against the bailouts and government takeovers. Consequently, Dobbs had to go.
He made the announcement on the air that tonight’s would be his last broadcast.
Over the past six months it’s become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us, and some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day. And to continue to do so in the most honest and direct language possible.
I’ve talked extensively with Jonathan Klein — Jon’s the president of CNN — and as a result of those talks, Jon and i have agreed to a release from my contract that will enable me to pursue new opportunities.
At this point, I’m considering a number of options and directions, and I assure you, I will let you know when I set my course. I truly believe that the major issues of our time include the growth of our middle class, the creation of more jobs, health care, immigration policy, the environment, climate change, and our military involvement, of course, in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But each of those issues is, in my opinion, informed by our capacity to demonstrate strong resilience of our now weakened capitalist economy and demonstrate the political will to overcome the lack of true representation in Washington, D.C.
I believe these to be profoundly, critically important issues, and I will continue to strive to deal honestly and straightforwardly with those issues in the future.
Unfortunately, these issues are now defined in the public arena by partisanship and ideology rather than by rigorous, empirical thought and forthright analysis and discussion. I’ll be working diligently to change that as best i can. And as for the important work of restoring inspiration to our great free society and our market economy, I will strive as well to be a leader in that national conversation.
As Dobbs has become more expressive it has become clear that a departure from CNN would be imminent. Speculation has been that Dobbs would resurface at FOX Business Network, but representatives from FOX say no deal is in the works.

The blood letting of non-Obamites from all parts of the “main media” continues. The right is often considered the ‘purger’ of non-like-thinkers but the vitriolic left is the real thin-skinned, “I’ll take my ball and go home if you don’t think the way I think” crowd.
Keep up the good bloggin’
Cheers, Rob
“Jon and i have agreed to a release from my contract”, These are Lou’s words so how do you get the “purging” from this, he left of his free will not fired or purged. I nearly laughed out loud when i read the line, ” He’s just a quiet and reasoned voice against the bailouts and government takeovers.”, really wow. He’s just a loud obnoxious idiot, always has been.
I think you need to turn off fox for a few weeks, then think for yourself. Everything that you have said, (blood letting – main media – purging – vitriolic left) is straight off of that so call news network, which they are not, they are a 24/7 political machine nothing more. If you want bias then by all means watch “faux”, because the one thing that they are is bias.
I was a consevative until the party got highjacked by over zealous nutjobs. I will say it again, we are all in this together…..united we stand divided we fall ……divid and conquer is a real stradegy. When you divid all of us , left-right, liberal-coservative, you seem to forget the one thing we have in common we’re all Americans.
“Obamites” really i thought i was an “AMERICAN”. By the way Dobbs will fit in good over there at “faux news”.
According to The New York Times: “Months ago the president of CNN/U.S., Jonathan Klein, offered a choice to Lou Dobbs … [he] could vent his opinions on radio and anchor an objective newscast on television, or he could leave CNN.”
I love how “we’re all in this together” according to you except, of course, Dobbs the “loud, obnoxious idiot” and “faux news” and the “over zealous nutjobs.” What you really mean is everyone you agree with is in this together, and everyone you don’t agree with should just go away. At least have the balls to say it instead of playing the “Kumbaya – we’re all in this together” game.
Rob, are you kidding me? If there’s one language all Americans speak..it’s money, power’s probably a strong second.
Dobbs probably can’t stand that Glen Beck, a virtual unknown on CNN HLN a few months ago, has now acclaimed National exposure on Fox…claiming to be an “independent” thinker.
Dobbs has an ego the size of the moon and probably thinks that CNN is keeping him back. He wants to freely spew all the insanity that a Glen Beck does. I swear the only remotely sane one over there(on Fox) is O’Riley(and he has the ego of TWO moons!).
To Dobbs credit, he raised and highlighted some issues that weren’t receiving enough attention and discussion. He lost credibility in my eyes when he started pandering to the ‘birthers”. Really??? America is THAT insecure?? Talk about a country of Whiners!
divide not divid…lmao
