Message to Republicans still smarting over our November 4 election loss: Stop your worrying. There’s a man in Florida called Charlie Crist who happens to be their Republican governor, and he’s got the whole thing figured out. He’s not even keeping it a secret. He laid it on the Republican governors who met last week in Miami.
All we have to do to win elections is…become Democrats and promise to appoint Democrats to positions of power in our administrations. See that group over there? Pander to them. See that Second Amendment? Pee on it. See those people over there in that building, kneeling down and worshiping their folksy backward God? Ahh…just ignore them. We must abandon the party to save the party, says Crist. RINO onward, RINO upward!
“It worked in Florida,” Crist said. “It could work nationally.”
Then there’s Sarah Palin. God/Allah/Buddha/Rah bless her heart. She thinks we should rebuild the party by actually adhering to the principles in which we believe and explaining to the electorate how those principles both benefit society and follow the course set out for out nation in the Constitution. Silly Sarah.
Palin put forward a harder line: Tough adherence to the party’s ideological principles.
Republicans, she said, should start on the road back by dogging the Obama administration and Democratic Congress on taxes, health care and energy, making no concessions.
“Now it is time for us to go our own way … confident in the knowledge that there will be another day. We’ll rise to fight again,” Palin said.

Asked what she would do about the party’s losses among women and Hispanic voters, she responded, “You know, I treat everybody equally … I’m going to work with this group of governors to serve all Americans, not letting gender, race, background, get in the way of doing what’s right for Americans as a whole.”
It’s not clear whether this curious “treating them equally” notion of Palin’s is compatible with Crist’s strong declaration of pandering, but it appears unlikely. No one asked Crist to explain how we just lost an election where we ran a candidate one tick to the right of Arlen Specter.
