The DNC has confirmed, through one of their mouthpieces in the left-wing blogosphere, that the White House collected personal information about political dissenters via the now defunct email snitch system at the address flagged@whitehouse.govI’m loathe to directly link to lefty propaganda sites, so I’ll provide this safe link to Red State’s report on the issue.

The snitch system, which encouraged the President’s supporters to forward any “fishy” information about the government take over of the health care system sent to them by dissenters, was instituted early this month and discontinued several weeks later.  A new web based system replaced the email forwarding scheme.

Now the DNC is striking back by pointing out that similar email collection is done on the Web sites of Senators and members of Congress, including … John Cornyn.

Over on Cornyn’s Senate Web site, for instance, you find that people who want to contact the Senator are asked to submit personal info, such as their names, addresses and emails, which are all required.

As Cornyn pointed out in his response, this is an example of constituents providing their own personal information attached to their own communications.  The White House’s snitch system encouraged supporters of the President to forward the personal information of his detractors.

Additionally, Senators and members of Congress don’t directly control the FBI, Secret Service or Justice Department. Those are all under the purview of the same White House that was collecting information on dissenters.
