Clear Channel Responds to Free Anti-Gun Billboard Outrage

Bitter over at The Bitch Girls has been proactive in getting a response from Clear Channel regarding their donation of billboards to anti-Gun crusaders Moms Against Guns.  Clear Channel is doing the old “we didn’t know” shoulder shrug.

Because of her investigation, some interesting information has also come to light.  It seems that Moms Against Guns, the anti-rights group that received gratis space on about area 30 billboards last week with much fanfare and a Michael Nutter-led unveiling, is not the non-profit organization we all (including Clear Channel) assumed them to be.  It is a registered LLC: a for profit enterprise. Don’t know if they represented themselves as a public service organization to Clear Channel, but news that they are not seems to have taken Clear Channel by surprise.

Everyone pretty much assumed the group was a (c)3, and questions were raised about how a new group could actually have so much cash coming in from donors that the donation of more than 30 billboards in one of the nation’s largest markets could be less than 10-15% of their annual budget. Even Clear Channel was concerned about this fact.

Actually Clear Channel was concerned by the fact that the Moms were lobbying. See, they hadn’t been to the website. They didn’t know the group was petitioning the legislature. They didn’t seem to know about the statements to the Philadelphia Inquirer about trying to impact the election. That was all news to them.

[...]

So the next step was for Clear Channel’s rep to call the lead Mom who, it turns out, is self funding the group. Only that conversation lead her to discover that the group isn’t registered as a charity at all. It’s registered as an LLC, and they have no intent of going for non-profit status.

The other outfit that donated space, Interstate Outdoor Advertising, appears to be a big bunch of radical libs who don’t mind being associcated with trying to separate you from your rights.
