Bucks County’s State Representative Chris King is planning to introduce legislation that would impose regulations on home heating oil companies in the state. Because adding a layer of bureaucracy is always a good way to keep costs in line, especially when the price of the underlying product is skyrocketing.
King said he decided to introduce the legislation because there is limited competition in the local home heating oil industry and he has received a lot of calls from constituents concerned about the price of home heating oil this winter.
Well, that’s an interesting take on it. I never found Bucks County to have a dearth of companies supplying home heating oil. In fact, a crude Yahoo! search found 73 listings in a 10 mile radius of Bristol Township in Levittown.
“A large number of my constituents use oil to heat their homes,” King said. “Oil companies are offering deals with varying rates to lock in rates for the winter months, and the PUC should have regulatory oversight of the industry to ensure that consumers are not being taken advantage of.”
Government, thinking for you so you don’t have to. Get your own house in line, Harrisburg Democrats. We’ll take care of ours.

Adding a regulatory burden to home heating oil companies is not a way to bring down prices.
