CBS Does Unemployment Story Without Mentioning Obama

CBS “News” did an entire story about the economy losing 467,000 jobs and the Unemployment Rate reaching a 26 year high without once mentioning Barack Obama or his failed stimulus plan that accelerated the job loss.

But CBS does have their priorities straight.  On this day of terrible economic news, they led with more coverage of Michael Jackson.

Here’s how the painfully short CBS report ended according to Newsbusters.

COURIC: Some very unwelcome news tonight, Anthony.

MASON: Hopefully it’s a one-month blip.

A “one month blip” that’s lasted six months.

Now would be a good time to mention that we’re through 12.5% of Barack Obama’s term in office.  At what point does the media begin to hold him to account for what he’s done? A quarter of the way through? Half?

NBC did mention Obama, which is to say that they allowed him to explain away in his own words any responsibility he holds for the performance of his economy without ever mentioning it themselves.

TRISH REGAN: In New York City some instructions for the newly unemployed. It’s become an increasingly popular class. And now news today that unemployment is at a 26-year high.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: It took years for us to get into this mess and it will take us more than a few months to turn it around.

To ABC’s credit, they went at the issue head on.

In contrast, ABC anchor Charles Gibson teased Thursday’s World News: “Tonight, job jolt. Unemployment reaches a 26-year high. Where are all those jobs the economic stimulus was supposed to produce?” Setting up ABC’s lead, Gibson proposed: “The rising unemployment raises questions about the economic stimulus, which was supposed to create jobs.”
