The McCain/Palin campaign has released an ad highlighting the 30 smear-merchants “air-dropped” into Alaska by the Obama campaign to manufacture smears against Governor Sarah Palin.

The latest, and likely not last, smear against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is that she was briefly a member of a third-party in Alaska called the Alaskan Independence Party in the 1990s. The party was apparently mainstream during that time (their gubernatorial candidate got more than a third of the vote in 1994), but seems to have veered secessionist in recent years.

Not that any of that AIP background matters.  Like most Palin smears being pushed by the media, this is also easily disproved.  The McCain campaign released Governor Palin’s voter registration data showing the Governor having been registered as a Republican uninterrupted since 1982 along with this comment on the original story by discredited reporter Jake Tapper of ABC News.

Based on the buzz today, I’m starting to get the impression we’re not looking at a Romney or Pawlenty running mate pick by John McCain.  If reports that the name will be “leaked” at about 6PM ET with “some sort of confirmation at 8PM” are accurate, I think we’re looking at a much more groundbreaking game-changing pick.

Aren’t Friday afternoons in August the time you choose to release damaging or embarrassing information because it’ll get less media play?  How could this apparent delay in the running mate decision and announcement be seen as anything other than a sign of incredible disarray in the Obama campaign?

This is the first major decision a Presidential candidate has to make. The fact that it has been so clearly mismanaged and wrought with apparent indecision doesn’t instill a lot of confidence when it comes to the executive skills of “The One.”

And if he winds up turning to Hillary to save his damaged candidacy, I think any benefit will be overshadowed by the weakness it telegraphs.  Making the solely political choice of turning to someone he so clearly dislikes because it’s the only way to save himself would be bad news.

And that’s not even taking into consideration the damage to Obama’s Hopey-Changey message that would come from picking the most typical old-school politician available to him because of typical old-school electoral concerns.

I can’t think of a worse choice for the Obamessiah.  Maybe Gore, but not by much.  Kerry?

The idiot convention starts on Monday.

There’s a little domestic terrorism going on, and it’s aimed at McCain offices in Denver, Colorado and Manchester, New Hampshire.  White powder and threatening letters to both.

Can anyone account for the whereabouts of Bill Ayers at this time?

Obama Has a Housing Problem: Tony Rezko

Either McCain’s rapid response is pretty good or he’s had this ad in the waiting and decided now is as good a time as any to release it.  In any event, he’s responded to the “John McCain’s Unknown Number of Houses” smear and, once again, it’s TKO McCain. Video below.

No Pro-Abort For McCain VP

Trying to tamp down days of hand-wringing from their conservative base, Republican National Committee officials have confirmed that John McCain will not be picking a pro-abortion Vice Presidential running mate such as former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge.

Several sources at the RNC told FOX News that in the last 36 hours, senior McCain advisers and aides have told RNC officials that McCain “got the message” last week that choosing a running mate who supports abortion rights would not be helpful.

GOP pundits had been vocal in urging the presumptive presidential nominee not to pick a running mate who supports abortion rights. Ridge, the first homeland security secretary, was said to be on McCain’s short list, and the only candidate who explicitly supports abortion rights.

One of the left’s favorite ways to attack President Bush over the past seven-and-a-half years has been to heap praise upon Senator John McCain.  The animosity between Bush and McCain is well known, and by lauding McCain the lefties felt like they could appear non-partisan while remaining virulently anti-Bush.  This has been especially true when McCain has forwarded agendas like Amnesty or First Amendment-busting Campaign Finance laws that pissed-off conservatives .

That strategy, along with a bitter (and seemingly not-yet-ended) Democrat primary campaign, has yielded advertising gold for the McCain campaign in the form of their new web-only advertisement called “Democrats Praising McCain.”

Steve Schmidt to the Rescue

It seems there is one man standing between Barack Obama and the total destruction of Capitalism and Liberty that an Obama Presidency would bring.  And, luckily, that man is exactly the guy you want standing there: Steve Schmidt.
