Sources close to negotiations between FOX News and Special Report anchor Brit Hume tell TV Decoder that the venerable newsman will step down from the show after November’s election.
It is reported that Hume will remain as a FOX News Sunday panelist after leaving the network’s Washington-focused 6PM program. Hume’s departure will mark the first significant change to FOX News’ prime-time line-up since Greta Van Susteren joined the channel in 2002.
Mr. Hume has been an unbridled supporter of Fox and a believer that the network acts as a counterweight to liberal bias on other networks. At Fox, he has helped shape the coverage of President Clinton’s impeachment, the 2000 election stalemate, and the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Mr. Hume previously spent 23 years as a reporter for ABC News, including eight years as the chief White House correspondent.
