As a resident of Pennsylvania over the past few years, it’s become easy to get accustomed to the words and actions of your two Senators having nothing to do with reality, honor or truth.
For example, when faced with overwhelming evidence that ACORN representatives were eager to help a pimp and prostitute set up a prostitution ring of under-aged girls and provide guidance on how to hide the proceeds from the IRS, Senator Bob Casey was one of only 7 Senators who voted to continue funding the enterprise.
Maybe that’s why this is so striking.
Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) — Democrats, having defeated a Republican attempt to block proposed Medicare cuts, now face an even bigger headache: concern among members of their own party over the program’s future funding.
[...]
Should Congress scale back the program, “We’re not going to be able to say ‘if you like what you have, you can keep it,’” said Senator Bob Casey, a Pennsylvania Democrat. “And that basic commitment that a lot of us around here have made will be called into question.”
Don’t get all giddy yet. A vote on the Nelson Amendment to the Health Care bill, an as-yet unseen measure that Nelson says would block federal funding for abortions similar to the House’s Stupak Amendment, looms as early as Friday.
The allegedly pro-life Casey says he’s been struggling to find language for the amendment that would “satisfy both sides.” That’s not realistic. The pro-abortion forces are clearly not going to be satisfied with any ban on federal funding for abortions, and pro-life forces are not going to be happy with any language that leaves any wiggle room. It remains to be seen where Casey will land when reality sets in and he needs to choose between what he says his beliefs are and what his party affiliation says they are.
If Nelson doesn’t get his amendment, the Democrats don’t get 60 votes and ObamaCare dies.
“If Stupak-type language is not in the bill at the end of the day, I can’t support getting it off the floor,” Nelson told reporters. “That’s not negotiable. No wiggle room.”
