An analysis of the list of Chrysler dealers closed down by the Obama-run auto maker show that many were donors to Republican candidates and Democrat rivals of Barack Obama during the 2008 election cycle.

Many observers were confused by the list of 789 Chrysler dealerships that were ordered to close their doors before June 9, as the closings seemed to follow no pattern based on sales volume or profitability.  Two preliminary studies found on the Internet seem to have located a common thread: Donations to politicians and political causes at odds with Barack Obama.

Doug Ross started by doing a cursory study of the list.

I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates. While this isn’t an exhaustive review, it does have some ominous implications if it can be verified.

Ross then found another more comprehensive list of anti-Obama donors whose dealerships were being shuttered at document sharing site Scribd.

Assuming all the information can be verified (the few names I plugged into campaign donor sites did pan out), this is a chilling example of the dangerous road onto which our country is being steered.

UPDATE: I am aware that, statistically, causation would be much easier to prove with data suggesting that the dealerships which remain open donated less to GOP causes or were Obama donors.  According to his site, Doug Ross is also aware of this, and the data is currently being scrutinized.

Stay tuned. Heavy-duty data crunching is underway.

As I said originally, the analysis is preliminary and the pattern deserves further scrutiny.

UPDATE: Democrat Bigwigs Keep Dealership As Their Competition Eliminated / Research Continues.

Food for Thought: It appears that a majority of car dealership owners lean Republican.  Even if it winds up that it can’t be proven that specific dealers were targeted for shut-down because of their politics, isn’t it odd that the Obama Administration would target this group – which produces just about all of Chrysler’s revenue by selling their cars – for the deepest cuts?  Wouldn’t you cut costs rather than revenue sources if you were trying to save a company?

Instead, the labor unions – primarily reponsible for labor costs that make it impossible to compete with foreign companies – get rewarded, and the revenue generators (dealerships) and investors get screwed.

FreeRepublic has done a lot of good over the past 10 years.

I hope we provide one of the final nails in the coffin for the MSM propaganda machine.

They facilitated this disaster by covering for this fraud, and should be held accountable.

Well I work at one of the shuttered dealerships and we were shocked. We are in the heart of one of the most affluent areas in St Louis and for the matter all of Missouri. I can tell you this Obama and has staff have never visited our dealership or spoke to any of our customers. We are one of the oldest Jeep Dealerships in the Midwest but apparently that does not mean a thing. Once he is done with this industry the Medical Industry will be next. Socialism here we come!

A little bit of knowledge in the wrong brain is useless and an eyesore. I have been around the car business all my life and have never come across a car dealer that admitted to supporting the Democrats. You are just using a turn on words and saying that someone who contributes to the Republican Party is Anti – Obama. For your conclusion to have any merit you would have to post the entire list and specify all that contributed to Dems and all that contributed to GOP. Then you would have some credibility. In a way the closing issue is karma I have lost thousands of dollars in commisions because the dealer would cut your end of month bonus by 50% if your CSI was not 100%. Which means you have to let the customer know about the survey and beg for 100% score. Dealer CSI is rated in Service and Sales and the service side is usally where the low CSI is, because, lets face it when you give up a car for the day and it is still not fixed you will be slaughtered when the factory survey comes through. Many dealers closed had really bad CSI but high profit made from killing people in the finance office which is the biggest profit center a dealer has. So, “What comes around goes around”. If dealers were owned by the factory the price you pay for a car would be a lot less and I will bet a good capitalist like yourself would be the first in line to save a buck. And you would still expect a demo ride, walk the salesman around in 90 degree heat in your shorts and sandals and tell him you have to ask your wife to bring the checkbook. But then go home and try to get the internet to make the car materialize in your driveway. So as a salesman I love seeing the dealer get there come up ins. Anything that goes wrong at the dealer is the salesmans fault, dealers have abused us and stolen from us for years. If you make too much money the pay plan is to good and they change it on the spot with a take or leave it attitude and a chomp on the cigar from Rush’s private stock.
