Americorps IG Gets A Taste Of “The Chicago Way”

Can you imagine how quickly the state-run media would pee their pants in delight if George Bush ever fired an investigator right after he’d exposed a Bush crony using public grants for private purposes like car washes and political campaigns.  20 minutes of every nightly newscast would be devoted to the story.

Yet this is exactly what happened when Barack Obama fired the Inspector General investigating Americorps, and not a peep.

Americorps is Barack Obama’s pet project.  He pushed and signed legislation to more than triple the size of Americorps in April.

Americorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin was dismissed by Barack Obama after Walpin discovered that Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a huge Obama supporter “misused federal grants.”

It seems that, after Walpin exposed Johnson’s alleged corruption, Barack Obama suddenly “lost confidence.”  Looks like Americorps is not a public service project, but is rather another venue for Barack Obama to launder public money into the pockets of his supporters like his bank intimidation and voter fraud outfit ACORN.

Obama’s move follows an investigation by IG Gerald Walpin of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is an Obama supporter and former NBA basketball star, into the misuse of federal grants by a nonprofit education group that Johnson headed…

The president didn’t offer any more explanation, but White House Counsel Gregory Craig, in a letter to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, cited the U.S. attorney’s criticism of Walpin to an integrity committee for inspectors general.

Grassley said Walpin had identified millions of dollars in AmeriCorps funds that were wasted or misspent and “it appears he has been doing a good job.”

The IG found that Johnson, a former all-star point guard for the Phoenix Suns, had used AmeriCorps grants to pay volunteers to engage in school-board political activities, run personal errands for Johnson and even wash his car.

Looks like Obama has his first “-gate.”
