Amazon Deleting Negative Pelosi Book Reviews En Masse

Users on the Amazon customer discussion board for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s failed book Know Your Power are reporting that Amazon is censoring negative reviews of the book through mass deletion.

A user posted a screen shot image from yesterday showing a one-star rating for the book based on 139 customer reviews.  Today, the book is shown to have a two-star rating based on 42 reviews.  97 seemingly negative reviews have been thrown down the memory hole.  Some users are reporting having seen a greater disparity in the number of reviews over time, with up to 200 reviews reported to have gone missing.

As a result, customers and reviewers are upset and threatening to shop elsewhere on the web.  Here are a few samples of the outrage.

  • Amazon is run by a bunch of effete latte-sucking liberals in Seattle who are in the tank for Nancy, and in the tank for her publisher; but mostly they are in the tank for their own profits. Of course, they love Nancy’s politics, but more importantly they want to sell millions of copies of her unreadable, self-serving memoir.
  • I have a wishlist of books that I had intended to purchase here, but not after hearing about this today.
  • I hear you there, I cancelled my Amazon Prime membership just now and plan on calling my credit card in the morning and switching it from an Amazon card to maybe Best Buy. I am done ordering from here and most of the people I know will be too by the end of the week.
  • I also have posted a review of this book and two times the post was “mysteriously” removed. My third post has made it the last 24 hours. I shop at lot at Amazon. I buy at least two books a month and many times get other things also. I will now be minimizing my purchases from this company. That’s what is great about a free-market system, I can take my business elsewhere, so that’s what I am going to do.
  • They protect their own. No such censorship took place with books by Coulter, Savage, Hannity, Malkin or the like.
  • If Amazon does not quit editing opinion that they disagree with they will not have me as a customer anymore. I spend thousands with them. Think it over leftists.

UPDATE 8/5: Users are reporting that the review deletion chicanery over at Amazon continues.  The lib-lemmings and Amazon apologists have locked onto “They’re just deleting spam reviews that are not valid reviews of the book” as an excuse for the behavior.  However, user comments here and here indicate this is not the case, and that valid negative reviews submitted by users who have actually read the book are being deleted.

UPDATE 8/6: Readers of this blog are reporting having their valid, reasonable negative reviews of another book — Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4) — deleted by Amazon as well.

UPDATE 8/25: Bucks Right reader Jake reports that Amazon has deleted the entire discussion of the negative reviews of Pelosi’s book being censored.  Cute.

The only thing Amazon will listen to is decreased sales. Just as the only thing Pelosi would hear are the words “You have lost re-election!”.

  2. bmayo says:

They are trying to spin this to look like a bunch of mindless drones who read Drudge are submitting bad reviews without reading the book, etc. What they are not recognizing is that the outrage people are expressing is from their absolute disgust at the audacity of this woman ‘writing’ a book that claims to encourage women to find and express their power when we have seen the YouTube videos of this person’s interaction and obvious loathing and contempt for the CodePink ladies who are trying to do just that.

  3. chris says:

Amazon reviewers on the payroll are quite left. God forbid someone has a different opinion and challenge their “worldly” views on politics and Socialistosi, oops, I mean Speaker Pelosi.

  4. MyTownTalks says:

I just caught this one propeller. I can’t beleive Amazon would stoop to something like this. The Amazon rating system is supposed to give you some feedback on whether a book is worth the money or not. I’m guessing Amazon has a huge inventory of these books and does not want to have to send them back to the publisher.

Personally I would never even consider reading anything this women wrote. I would be too scared some of her stupidity would rub off on me if I read any of it.

  5. frank moore says:

Pelosi is a first class loser and even the democrats know it. WE should all boycott Amazon. I will be the first in line to do it.

  6. WILL says:

GOOGLE ALSO HAS A LEFT WING AGENDA

  7. WILL says:

PELOSI IS AS CORRUPT AS ANY REPUBLICAN , THEY ALL SUK

  8. Margaret Ozor says:

Yes, boycott not only Amazon, but all this con artists, ruthless business people, “CROOKED” politicians and CEOs. People who focus on their own interests while totally disregarding rights of others are have little or no remorse. Simply put ,they are sick people suffering from ANTISOCIAL PERSONALITY DISORDERS.

  9. Marlene says:

I was about to place an order on Amazon. I changed my mind.
Liberals defend freedom of expression ONLY when they agree with them. How sad…

  10. al says:

Amazon you have lost my business. There are plenty of competitors.

  11. al says:

All these liberal media outlets and now AMAZON …. seems like we are in N.Korea

  12. Bratprincess4evr says:

This is surprising that Amazon would do this? C’mon now…Barnes & Noble has put Obama’s bio in the Religious Section, Amazon peddles liberal bias and dogma at every corner (even at children’s sites)…this isn’t surprising to us here my house but it is still disappointing and as we speak..we’re going to be taking our account status away from Amazon.

  13. P Coughlin says:

    I am through with Amazon

  14. BlackDeep says:

I am going to give Amazon the benafet of a doubt and see if a head comes rolling out of the Amazon basket. If not, well there is always Hastings.

  15. DickW says:

I have averaged buying 3 to 5 books a month from Amazon over the past few years, but NO more…can’t understand why a company can not be honest about a book…a fucking book for christsakes….can anyone recommend a good competitor?

    • Steven says:

Try half.com. They’re even usually cheaper, but you buy from third-party folks like on ebay (which owns half.com).

  16. Rick Tucker says:

What’s probably happening is Amazon is deleting phoney reviews by rightwing assassins. I’ve seen reviews from such people in the past who go to Amazon just to destroy a book by giving it a scathing review and never referring to the book’s contents. Amazon has every right to drop reviews that are simply bad excuses at political slander. It would be nice if both sides of the political spectrum would play nice, but I’ve noticed over the years that some neocons think winning an argument by shouting someone down is better than having the class to present a valid argument.
I have no doubt if the book’s reviews actually showed that the reviewers had actually read the book the reviews would still be intact.
The tactic, aka bad taste, of just slandering someone for having a differing political viewpoint needs to go away. It serves no one and only draws heated reactions from either side.
As for the boycotting of Amazon, look, I’ve never boycotted anything on someone else’s say so. It’s both childish and destructive and is more likely to draw the opposite affect. Don’t be lemmings. Write Amazon a letter asking why they did what they did. If what I’ve said really was the problem then tell them you expect the same treatment when mean spirited liberals do the same thing to conservative authors.
It’s time the divisiveness was toned down and given intelligent considerations instead of everyone manning their rhetoric guns.
By the way, North Korea is not in any way shape or form “liberal”.
Must people dumb down the discussion with such asinine comparisons?

    • Steven says:

The only problem with your theory is that, on both sites I’ve linked to in the main article, people explicitly state that their (sometimes multiple) valid negative reviews based on the content of the book were deleted.

No one thinks North Korea is liberal. Fascist like Amazon and liberal attitudes in the US…well that’s a different story.

  17. dougklast says:

Nancy Pelosi let down America by not prosecuting President GW Bush to the full extent of the law.

  18. Charlie says:

I have long been a customer of Amazon. That is over. I consider myself a moderate liberal, but Nancy Pelosi is a disgrace to the Democratic Party. She and Harry Reid are the two worst leaders the Democrats have had in Congress since I have been keeping track. Harry pulled the juvenile act of bringing in the beds and now Nancy cuts out the lights. The new sheriff in town has been a dud. The only reason she’s in her position is her daddy.

    • Steven says:

To me, the issue isn’t even that are or aren’t supporting that plaster-faced Pelosi. She’s irrelevant in my mind. The issue to me is that they’re supporting any agenda while presenting to the world that they are providing an open forum for customers to advise other customers about the relative quality of a book. It’s their right to delete or not delete whatever they want to on their site, but don’t go around acting like the reviews are an honest representation of customer opinion when you do. They are, at that point, other people writing Amazon’s opinion over and over again.

  19. Charlie says:

I think it should be my decision on which reviews to read or not read, Not Amazonz. They don’t mind taking these people’s money so they should honor their comments. That’s the problem with our present administration, they are arrogant enough to think they know what is best for everybody, no matter what the people think. When some organization, liberal or conservative, starts trying to do my thinking for me, I turn someshere else. If this is what the liberals think is change then they should back George Bush.

    • Steven says:

Not sure how everything, no matter what it is, always comes back to George Bush, but I do thank you for commenting.

    LOL

That’s me! I made it into a blog post!

    Ahhhhh
    Validation.

But its’ true. The same thing happened with books or movies by any moonbat – especially Moore and Gore. Reviews deleted left and right.

  23. larry z says:

Speaker Popeye Pelosi is a joke book.

  24. joyce says:

Pelosi doesn’t need to worry about her bad reviews. She has enough problems with the recent exposure of her conflict of interest. She shut down Congress because she is investing in Picken’s company to create windfarms. http://dontgomovement.com/2008/08/11/nancy-pelosi-invests-in-energy-scheme-and-water-grab-by-t-boone-pickens/#comment-301

  25. 4Bear says:

I just canceled an order from Amazon. I ordered Obama Nation and the best they could do was delivery around 30 October. Outrageous! Albris is delivering the same book by 30 August.

Amazon appears to be in the tank for the Democrat party.

  26. Jake says:

Oops. The Amazon discussion board that you refer to has been… um… CENSORED by Amazon. * LOL *
