97.5 WJJZ has flipped formats. The station turned off their Smooth Jazz format over the weekend and began a simulcast of 95.7 WBEN.
This morning at 9AM, the station began a “Younger Approach to Today’s Soft Rock” format by playing a short montage featuring the history of rock music in Philadelphia followed by P!nk’s Who Knew.
The new station’s second song was Every Breath You Take by The Police.
You can follow the songs played on the new 97.5 (possibly rebranded as “Now 97.5″) here and listen online here.

Yet another reason to listen to cds. A great philaldephia legend and trandition gone AGAIN!!
Hi,
Although WJJZ is gone, you now have nine new Smooth Jazz music channels at http://PhillySmoothJazz.com.
You can fast-forward past songs you don’t like, and you can de-select un-desired artists. And it’s all free, just like radio.
I hope you enjoy,
Lee
I guess I will have to go back to listening to my cd’s. This is the 2nd time in two years that wjjz has been kicked off the air? What gives? Those corporate idiots in the suits who keep making these jackass decisions, need to realize that not everyone is into rock, rap or talk radio. Smooth jazz is very relaxing. I hope someone will sponsor wjjz and put it back on the air.
This really stinks! Don’t we have enough classic rock and easy listening stations. What ever happen to variety? WJJZ’s Smooth Jazz was much needed listening after a day at the office or just driving around on the weekend or reading the paper on the weekend. I guess the listeners don’t have a say so anymore. Time to turn the radio completely off!
I can’t believe it. One of the only radio stations that I love, and its gone. Replaced by “today’s soft rock,” an addition to hundreds of other rock stations. Those people need to realize that there are people in the world who LOVE Jazz. Give us our JAZZ!
Bring WJJZ back!….why is it that those in the corporate world are always
destroying everything that they touch….SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME on
you!…..Bring back WJJZ!
How many x’s does one have to search for a new jazz station, what happen to
our good jazz station Wjjz, this is the second x I had to find where the new
jazz station is,no-one wants to hear comtempary, rap,,We love our jazz ,I
wish you would do something, this’s is a disgrace.
Guess I’ll be sticking to Sirius, at least they have a jazz station worth listening to. When I want the interminable soft rock pap I’ll go commercial and listen to one of the multitude of sound alikes there……………never
Still upset like a writer without a pencil…
BRING BACK OUR JAZZ!!!!!!!!!
I miss WJJZ. I was really upset they removed it from the air. I am not a very typical 29 year old. I love Jazz and really miss the station. Nothing and I mean Nothing is on the radio. I listen to cd’s now all the time.
No diggity. Everytime I stepped into my car the first button I pushed was smooth jazz 97.5. DC, Virginia, Maryland’s Smooth Jazz staions thrive. Only In Philly Pa. do you have these people. I’m glad I was born in DC. Although I live in Philly, have for over a quarter century, I never tell people I’m a philadelphian.
What gives with you people?? WJJZ is the only station worth listening to in our area. There are WAY too many “soft rock” stations on air now. Maybe Dave Koz will buy your station and resume playing playing the best music there is…JAZZ!
I’m still confused as to why people are directing comments at this site as if I have anything to do with WJJZ.
I’m totally loss for words. I can’t believe WJJZ is off the air completely. How do we go about getting the jazz station back? I never thought I would feel this way about a radio station. Obviously, WJJZ meant a little something to me. WOW!
The morning Smooth Jazz went off the air, I deleted the station from my radio. I refuse to listen to that new “smooth rock”. We are deluged with the overrated, insipid rock sound of the past. Jazz put me in touch with my inner self, let me marvel at musical talent, and gave me the peace I needed to deal with the stress of driving and everyday hassles. Ramsey Lewis and Dave Koz added personality to the music . My friends and relatives are equally dissappointed. I hope one brilliant station manager out there recognizes the large audience jazz has in the Phila. area.
WHERE IS WJJZ NOW?????????????
THIS IS INSANE! Somebody, anybody…where & when will it come back to Phila???
I loved that station!!!! Why mess with something that was already perfect. I will miss WJJZ. I guess this means I’ll have to buy cd’s and listen to them. Wow, it’s going to be so hard to find the mixture of music they played. Ugh…….ugh!!!!
This is terrible! Why add another station of soft rock when there are so may already available?!??! BIG MISTAKE! Some audiences wanted a station that offered something different. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the jazz format and looked forward to hearing about the latest concerts and news in the world of jazz. BRIING BACK THE JAZZ!!!
As a former Philly resident, I have relocated to orange county california. We have a great public radio station with great commecial free jazz. Go to KSBR on the web. They stream 24/7. Enjoy
Greg from NJ……
Share all the thoughts up to now about Philly’s inability to support a Smooth Jazz station! Hope Tozzi lands in a place where his efforts are appreciated.
Have gone back to XM, 71 “Watercolors” and Dave Koz’s radio channel on the web.
I listen to smooth jazz all around the globe via the web.
Smooth Jazz hope is eternal….:)
My husband is devastated about WJJZ leaving the air as he doesn’t have the options of satellite radio and the internet while on-the-job. CD’s are just too tough for him to keep clean or change while renovating a home. Moving the radio from place to place was easy and he heard all that he wanted ie, the commercials, the news, the traffic reports and, especially, the upcoming events. He didn’t even mind the recycle of songs which seemed to be every hour and a half; however, I did and began “surfing” the FM dial. There’s so much more out there to be heard in order to keep listeners interested. One more thing, my husband has cried only three times in his life…at the passing of two of our dogs and when Michael Tozzi left the air. Please bring back smooth jazz to the airways.
NOW you know why I subscribed to XM Satellite Radio a few years ago. I loved WJJZ but Satellite is even better. If you are ever in the central PA. area try 92.7 WSJW –Central Pa. Smooth Jazz. Otherwise get XM or Sirius. By the way this station, WSJW, is also broadcasting ON LINE. I’m sure some of you could find some jazz as there are many online radio stations. Give it a try.
Bob.
It’s a shame that Jazz and Classical channels are falling hard. WJJZ was an AWESOME station. It will be missed.
Hi ,
i miss the smooth Jazz station. Why do we have to buy for radio. it on it’s way for us to by for Radio just like we do TV. Which half the time there is nothing on. going back to basic reading.
