“Elect us.  This country is in bad shape and it’s a dangerous world, but we’re the party that’s strong enough to lead this country to a new place of hope and change.  Now excuse us while we openly weep.” - Message of the 2008 Democrat Convention

In his brief and largely unaired moment in the Democrat Convention spotlight, Congressman Patrick Murphy had to dig deep to qualify Barack Obama as Commander in Chief of the US Military.

Credit Card companies Visa and US Bancorp (US Bank) are set to throw a party for freshman House of Representative Democrats like Congressman Patrick Murphy in Denver this afternoon that seems to flout the intent of recent campaign finance laws.

Hubris Watch: Mile-High Church of Obamism

Does this one really require any commentary?

DENVER (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

[...]

Once Obama speaks, confetti will rain down on him and fireworks will be fired off from locations around the stadium wall.

Is Obama “a leader God has blessed us with at this time?” Seems to me, in his own opinion, he is a leader who has blessed us with an earthly vision of Himself.

Of course, just like when he tried to elevate himself beyond a mere Presidential candidate in Berlin, this will fall flat and cost him support no matter how well the actual speech goes.  McCain has successfully pointed out how Obama and his supporters see the candidate as an earthly Messiah, and this will only play into what McCain has been doing.

Mitt Romney is tearing through the Democrat Convention in Denver with an impressive ability to be relentlessly negative against America’s opponents in the Democrat party while still coming across as genial.  The tour, on the heels of Romney’s 10-day Olympic vacation, is being painted as Romney’s audition for the nod as McCain’s Vice Presidential pick.

The following are incomplete thoughts I had during Hillary Clinton’s speech to the Democrat Convention.

She looks like she’s going to cry having to go through these half-hearted motions

Could no one tell this poor woman she had lipstick all over her front tooth before the biggest speech of her life?

Why would you adopt 2 children with Autism if you had no health insurance?

Wow - all these reasons why I ran for President, and oh yeah - Obama is for them too.

Wilting criticism of McCain.  Is she angling for Republican VP?

Tepid support of Obama.

Wow - vote for Obama because we really have no other choice.

Boy does Michelle hate Hillary - a lot

Lipstick gone. Maybe it was residue of the crap sandwich they’re making her eat in this speech

Those who can’t don’t teach.  They quote someone else.

Rendell: Obama Like Adlai Stevenson

If Barack Obama had it all to do over again, something tells me he’d invite Kwame Kilpatrick and John Edwards to the Democrat Convention and disinvite Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and President Bill Clinton.

House Speaker (and Patrick Murphy’s brain) Nancy Pelosi got snippy and abruptly stormed away from a press conference on energy without taking questions when a group of protesters started chanting “Drill Here, Drill Now” according to the Rocky Mountain News.

“Right here? You want to drill right here?” Pelosi asked as John McCain supporters began their chant. “Can we drill your brain?”

Dignified.

Although the lights are extinguished and all the athletes have gone home, the International Olympic Committee’s investigation into the real ages of several gymnasts on the Chinese gymnastic team continues.

Mike Walker, the computer security expert and blogger who uncovered purged Chinese electronic documents putting gymnast He Kexin’s age under the minimum allowable 16-years, believes he may have found additional documents throwing into question the age of gymnast Jiang Yuyuan.
